What changed: Kaiser and Renown teamed up
Kaiser Permanente and Renown Health finalized a joint venture in February 2026. Kaiser became majority owner of Hometown Health, Renown’s longtime local health plan. Beginning January 1, 2027, Hometown Health operates as Kaiser Permanente Nevada.
Renown stays an independent, nonprofit health system and serves as Kaiser’s hospital partner in the Reno area. That means Kaiser members in Northern Nevada get Kaiser’s coordinated care model backed by the region’s largest hospital network.
Already on a Hometown Health plan?
Your 2026 coverage doesn’t change. Some HMO members may see network changes in 2027, so open enrollment is a good time to review your options.
Where you’ll get care in Reno and Sparks
Kaiser already has two medical offices open in the Truckee Meadows, with a third opening in January.

Hospital care runs through Renown. Kaiser has said it will look at expanding into Carson City and surrounding counties later, but the initial focus is the Reno–Sparks area.
Who can enroll, and when
Kaiser Permanente Nevada plans are available to individuals and families buying their own coverage, and to employers offering group benefits.
Individuals and families
Open enrollment runs November 1, 2026 through January 15, 2027. Enroll by December 31 for coverage starting January 1. You may qualify for premium tax credits through Nevada Health Link.
Employers
Group plans follow your renewal date. If your company renews January 1, now is the time to quote.
Outside open enrollment
A qualifying life event, like moving to Nevada, losing other coverage, marriage or a new baby, can open a special enrollment window.
Just moved from California?
Relocating to Nevada usually qualifies you for special enrollment, so you may not have to wait.
of new Nevada residents from 2020 to 2023 were former Californians, according to Nevada DMV data. Kaiser has said that migration was a big reason it chose Reno.
Why it feels familiar if you’re from California
If you had Kaiser in California, the model will feel like home:
- Your doctors, lab, pharmacy and health plan work together, so there’s less chasing referrals and records.
- Primary care, lab work and (starting in 2027) pharmacy and imaging under one roof.
- One plan that coordinates your care instead of a patchwork of separate bills and networks.
For many families, getting that back is the single biggest thing they’ve missed since the move.
